RSRIIP in the Middle East

During a business trip to the Middle East, Vladimir Lopatin - Head of RSRIIP – the only scientific non-profit organization in the CIS countries on intellectual property – participated in negotiations with Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh - the founder and chairman of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) – held on the initiative of the Jordanian side in Amman – the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on February 13, 2019.

In his welcoming speech, Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that “we are very pleased with this new cooperation, which will help to create an environment for the intellectual property market and its protection in the interests of the prosperity of creativity and innovation”.

In his speech, Professor Vladimir Lopatin thanked the organizers of the meeting, noting that “Jordan is an amazing mixture of ancient and modern history. Since history is a history of ideas, a history of events and a history of people, this “triad” is vividly represented in the life story of Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh. I think, - said Vladimir Lopatin, - that it is difficult to find someone who knows the history so subtly and feels it, like you do, Mr. Chairman. You are the same age as my mother, and she believes and wants to live today 150 years to achieve her dream. Your work, merit and followers talk about your big dream, probably to change the world. Every project today is a foundation for the future.”

Speaking about the problems of intellectual property, Vladimir Lopatin noted that "our peoples and countries have become closer to each other. In the 21st century, trade between Russia and Jordan has grown more than 20 times and will grow further. However, the structure of world trade is changing in favor of intellectual property market growth (from 4 to 15% of GDP). During the transition to digital economy, this share, according to expert estimates, will increase by twice (by 2030 - 30%). At the same time, in our countries this share is less than 1%, whereas Russia’s neighbor Finland has 20%; and in Israel - Jordan’s neighbor - technology and intellectual property transfer has become a major export item (in the absence of natural resources)”.

At the end of the negotiations, he summarized: “We have learned to sell intellectual property within 14 years, we prepare national and interstate standards on how to do it better, publish magazines, national report, hold an annual international forum and train personnel. Today I am here to do it all further with you.”

Following the negotiations, an Agreement on strategic innovation cooperation was signed between RSRIIP and “Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property” (AGIP) - the leading global provider of services in the field of intellectual property (trademarks and patents) represented by the CEO Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, Vice-President of TAG-Org. By signing this Agreement, the Parties expressed their readiness to establish and develop long-term cooperation in order to effectively develop the international market for intellectual property and innovation infrastructure institutions in order to solve actual problems of innovative development through the intellectual property market in the EAEU countries and Arab countries, including through the creation of the Middle East International Center for Intellectual Property.

Representatives of the Russian Embassy, Rossotrudnichestvo and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in Jordan took part in the negotiations and signing of the Agreement.

After negotiations in TAG-Org, Vladimir Lopatin met with the Acting Director Russia's Ambassador to Jordan, I. Bulgakov, and the director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture of Rossotrudnichestvo, S. Simakov, during which specific measures for possible assistance in the implementation of this Agreement were developed.
